College World Series 2010: Predicting Arizona State’s CWS Run

Arizona State's 2010 baseball season has been anything but a walk in the park. Although their record might not indicate it, the No. 1 Sun Devils (52-8) have had to struggle for all they've gotten. It started in late November when legendary coach Pat Murphy was forced to resign amid an NCAA investigation into his recruiting past. It began a time of questioning and doubt in a town that hasn't worried about its baseball team in years. Usually in Tempe, fans can count of two things happening each July: it being hot as heck, and their Sun Devils going to Omaha. Then, to add fuel to the flame, All-American pitcher Josh Spence went down with a season-ending injury to his throwing arm. With no coach and no ace, expectations for the Sun Devils were low (at least in ASU standards). But just as quickly as questions could be asked, this team gave out resounding answers in the positive. Under new coach Tim Esmay, ASU began the year winning its first 24 games along the way to a fourth consecutive Pac-10 championship.
