College Baseball World Series Bracket 2012: Stony Brook Is Team Worth Rooting on
Published by Timothy Rapp on June 12, 2012
If you love a good underdog story as much as I do, you darn well better support Stony Brook at this year's College Baseball World Series.
When it comes to underdog tales, the Seawolves are as good as it gets. Consider the following from Eric Sondheimer of the Los Angeles Times (via the Boston Herald):
Stony Brook is the equivalent of a No. 16-seeded team making it to the NCAA basketball Final Four. The Seawolves are just the second fourth-seeded team from a regional to reach the eight-team College World Series since the tournament expanded to 64 teams in 1999. The other was Fresno State, which won the national title in 2008.
There's more to this story, of course. Stony Brook wasn't a Division I school until 2000 and was a Division III squad in 1995.
As well, it's rare to see a school from the Northeast advance to the College World Series. According to the Bleacher Report - College Baseball
