Houston Cougars Sweep UTA In Three Games To Kick Off Baseball Season

After winning the first two games of their three-game series, the Houston Cougars (3-0, 0-0 C-USA) downed the University of Texas at Arlington Mavericks 6-4 to sweep the opening weekend series at Cougar Field.
Coming into the series, Houston led in all-time meetings 5-1, with a 4-0 record at Cougar Field.
In their first game on Friday, the Cougars won by a score of 15-5
On Saturday, the two teams faced off again with the Cougars winning match 9-0. Jordan Lewis went seven innings on the mound, giving up five hits and striking out two.
Landon Appling went 3 for 4, scoring two runs, while Austin Gracey went 3 for 5, with two runs and two RBI.
Sunday’s game saw Houston jump out to a 5-1 lead in the bottom of the first on two home runs by Chase Jensen and Gracey. Both hit two-run round trippers to give the Cougars the early lead.
The Mavericks mounted a comeback in the top of the fourth when Preston Beck singled through the right side, sending two runners home reducing the Cougar lead to one (5-4).
